2006-07 was the GDL's 60th anniversary, so we set out to focus our celebration on our big special party night.
Around 150 people arrived at Barry Memo on 9th June, in all their finery, for the annual overview and celebration of the best of amateur theatre in Glamorgan. The competition was fierce, especially in the adult section, with 11 strong productions in the field. Below you'll find all the award winners, shortlisted and nominated individuals from the Youth Glammies. Click here for the shortlists/winners of the adult categories.
The shortlists and winners of the acting awards are here.
Other, non-acting awards are here.
This is where you can see all the people on the longlist for the acting awards.
Lots of wonderful talent. Well done everyone.
Photographs of the evening are in the photogallery.
We started with a most moving tribute from GDL Chair, Teri McCarthy, to bid farewell to our our recently deceased President Peggy Mason-Gray and past Chair, Mike Barlow. Peggy's son, Mike, was in attendance to present the award for the Best Production cup at the end of the awards in honour of his mother, after whom the cup has been named. Mike was accompanied by Peggy's great friend and support, Hazel Hughes.
Moving on, we had the usual big singing and dancing number from The Unknown Theatre Company, as well as extracts from drama productions from Swansea Little Theatre and The Unknown Theatre Company.
There were the usual awards, following overview speeches from Adult Moderator, Lon David, and Youth Moderator, Teri McCarthy and the whole evening was held together by anecdote and good humour from friend of the GDL, actor and playwright Greg Ashton.
Winding up the evening, as it was our 60th birthday, there was dancing to the Mike Sunderland Trio. But there were 4 of them.....
Some fun and games at the start of the evening with trying to get a computer to work to run the presentation for the evening, but we got there - even if the finished product didn't look like it was meant to ...
But with the first of the 2008 Glammies already in, it's time to start planning now for next year....
Winners are shown in coloured boxes
